How To Dye Your Hair With Cherie Mehandi Henna Powder
(For Red Hint)
Applying henna is not like applying any hair dye. The longer the hair, the messier it gets.
Henna is a transparent dye that coats the hair shaft, binding with the keratin. It conditions the hair giving it shine and body, in addition to a rich red color. Because it is a transparent dye, it will not change the color of your hair, only coat it with color.
Therefore, black hair will just have a reddish sheen when seen in direct sunlight, but blond or gray hair will become a brilliant orange and brown hair will become a deep shade of auburn. If you are dyeing your hair to cover the gray, the gray hairs will come out a bright, almost pink orange.
Choose henna that is body art quality to ensure that you get good color.
The recipe is simple: lemon juice and henna powder.
Mix a paste that is the consistency of yogurt.
Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and allow the henna to cure for a minimum of 12 hours in a warm place.
Once cured, put the henna into a plastic bottle (or a plastic bag with the corner cut off); apply the henna paste to your hair in sections starting at the roots.
Wrap your hair in plastic and a scarf to keep your head warm.
Leave the henna on for about 2-6 hours shampoo and rinse with warm water.
Your hair will start out a much brighter color and darken over the next two days.
If you want an even darker color henna your hair several times to build up layers of color.
For maintenance of your color, henna once every month or two. You can henna just your roots instead of the whole head.
1. Assume your head is a globe. You want your hair to be piled at the north pole. That way, you don't need any pins to keep it in place.
2. Start at the top and take a very small partition of your hair. Apply henna just to the roots and skin closest to the partition of hai
3.Wind the hair in one direction (say clockwise). Apply more henna to the length of the hair as you are wrapping it. Let it sit on the top. This should resemble a small ball. This is your guide for wrapping the rest of the hair (like you are winding a ball of wool).
4. Now take another thin partition of hair closest to the first partition (the ball), winding around it but in opposite direction (say counter-clockwise)
5. Keep doing this, making sure each time the hair is wound in the opposite direction, and always wrapped around the ball.
6. Also, make sure your next partition of hair is closest to the ball.
7. Start with the roots, and apply to the remaining length of hair as you are winding it
8. The hair will stay in place without clips, because you piled it at the top, and alternated the direction or wrapping, for each partition.
9. How long? It depends on your desire of having your hair more or less colored. Normally, I would start doing the henna in the afternoon. Then, wrap all the head with newspaper like making a 'helmet'. Then wrap it all with a shower hood to prevent tainting your bed. And go to sleep.
When you wake up, you'll find that the henna has become more like a mud helmet.
10. You should put your head under a tap and start washing it with water until your new hair appears again, do not apply shampoo for 24 hours. You may be anxious to get all the grains of henna out in the wash, but it may be more helpful especially if you have fine hair to have the bulk of it rinsed off, and then "dry lather" your scalp when your hair is dry and brush the remaining grains off.
How To Dye Your Hair With Cherie Indigo Powder
(For Dark Brown/Black Hair)
Cover everything in old towels or newspaper, and wear old clothes.
- Dye your hair with henna first for the best result. This helps give the indigo a base to stick to. You can mix indigo into henna to get shades of reddish-brown to auburn to brownish black.
- Get 100g of indigo for every six inches of hair. Curly hair will need more. 200g is usually enough for shoulder length hair.
- Mix the indigo in a plastic bowl with warm water.
Wait 10-15 minutes, you will see the green powder start to turn a deep purple black on top. When it's black, it's ready.
Get someone to help you apply the indigo, starting at the back. Cover your entire hair, and wrap it in saran wrap.
Wipe off the drips that run down, or you'll have grey streaks on your face and neck. Laying on your back helps keep the indigo from dripping down.
Rinse the indigo off with cool water after 45 minutes to an hour.
Your indigo will be dark brown at first, and deepen to black over 2-4 days. Wait several days, and reapply if you see any missed spots, or if the indigo is not dark enough.
